Rational Numbers Definition 6th Grade. A number is called rational if it can be expressed in the form p/q where p and q are integers (q > 0). This means that natural numbers, whole numbers and integers, like 5, are all part of the set of rational numbers as well because they can be written as fractions, as are mixed numbers like 1 ½.
'properties' is just a fancy way of saying, 'things that are true of all rational numbers.' In sixth grade, you won't spend much time worrying about whether or not numbers are rational, since most of the numbers you're dealing with are. After this lesson, students won't be expected to label every grid line.
It says that between any two real numbers, there is always another real number.
Any number that can be written in fraction form is a rational number. Π/2 looks like a fraction. A rational number is a number that can be in the form p/q. √ 49 = 7, and so it’s a rational number.
